Voters in Potterville and both Windsor Charter and Benton townships approved a proposal from Potterville Public Schools to renew its current millage rate. Part of the money could "be disbursed to such other or fewer local units of government" when officials think it's appropriate, according to the ballot language voters approved Tuesday. The renewed millage is expected to raise $360,756 in the first year and will pay for CATA to increase the frequency of current routes and provide the Redi Ride service to township residents. That's about $15 per year for a house with a taxable value of $150,000. They renewed it at the reduced rate of 0.1983 mills.

Officials reduced it from the approved levels in 2017 and then against last year.

Voters first approved the millage in 1999 and renewed it in 2009. The second renews the millage that funds expanded services through CATA, including providing Redi Ride service to township residents. That typically corresponds to a market value of about $300,000. That's about $292 per year for a house with a taxable value of $150,000. Officials estimate they'll levy 1.94 mills for about 10 years to pay back the debt. Officials say that would provide enough money to close a $3 million annual gap and allow the township to repave 147 local miles of roads four times faster. The first allows the township to take on debt and increase property taxes by around 1.7 mills, a move that would raise $35 million over the next 10 years to maintain roads that are still intact and repair others that are falling apart. The second proposal also passed by a wider margin, garnering 1,830 votes - 62% of ballots cast. It passed in all but one of the township's 19 precincts. The second renews a millage supporting Redi Ride and other Capital Area Transportation Authority services in the township. It passed with 1,631 votes in favor - 55% of the ballots cast. The first, which will allow the township to raise $35 million over the next 20 years to fix and maintain crumbling roads, passed in 14 of the township's 19 precincts.
